THE OPPORTUNITY
The Director, Facility Operations & Planning is accountable for directing, implementing and monitoring all aspects of the organization’s facility management functions across all locations. Mackenzie Health’s facilities include a combination of Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital (MRHH) which is a traditional healthcare building, and Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital (CVH) which is a Design-Build-Finance-Maintain (DBFM) arrangement under the Ontario Government’s Alternative Financing and Procurement (AFP) model, as well as landlord-tenant relationships for several community locations.

The Director provides overall planning and operational leadership for facility management, security operations and fire safety compliance with the objective of delivering safe, efficient, and cost-effective service in accordance with policies and legislation. The Director works in collaborative partnership with operational colleagues, direct reports and team, and 3rd party partners to develop strategies that will enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of facilities operations. As a hospital leader, the Director participates in and is accountable for a broad range of hospital-wide planning and continuous improvement activities, ensuring consistency across all MH locations.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Degree in Engineering or a related healthcare, technical, or facilities management discipline required. 
- Master’s degree, CHPA certification (International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety), PMP or equivalent certification, training in security or law enforcement preferred.
- 5–10 years of progressive senior leadership experience overseeing facilities, security, fire safety, emergency preparedness, ideally within a complex healthcare environment.
- Deep knowledge of legislative requirements (e.g., public health regulations, industrial regulations, and building codes), industry standards, and best practices across security, fire safety, emergency management, infection prevention and control, and building operations.
- Proven ability to lead complex portfolios, align operations with organizational priorities, and deliver measurable results through strong planning, analysis, and reporting.
- Demonstrated success leading emergency preparedness, incident response, and crisis management with a focus on safety, resilience, and continuity of care.
- A collaborative and influential leader who builds trust, develops high-performing teams, and partners effectively with clinical, and operational stakeholders, and service-providers.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, optimizing resources, and supporting organizational sustainability.
- Skilled in evaluating systems, identifying opportunities, and leading process improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean approaches) that enhance safety, efficiency, and experience.
- Experience delivering complex projects and leading change in dynamic, highly regulated environments.
- Committed to developing others—building organizational capacity in safety, emergency preparedness, and operational excellence through effective training and mentorship.
- Proven ability to manage critical incidents with sound judgment, compassion, and accountability.
- Strong understanding of healthcare operations, governance, and stakeholder environments, with the ability to navigate complexity with professionalism and tact.
