Position Title: Senior Director, Enterprise Strategy 
Reports to: SVP, Strategy & Business Enablement
Location:         Toronto (4 days in office)

THE ORGANIZATION
Our client is a large institutional/pension investment organization responsible for managing diversified portfolios on behalf of multiple clients.  This entity focuses on delivering long-term, risk-adjusted returns across asset classes including public equities, fixed income, private markets, and infrastructure. It operates with a strong emphasis on disciplined governance, fiduciary responsibility, and cost efficiency, leveraging both internal investment expertise and external partnerships to scale capabilities. The organization plays a critical role in supporting the financial sustainability of its stakeholders by aligning investment strategy with long-term objectives, while navigating complex market environments and evolving regulatory expectations.


THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the SVP, Strategy & Business Enablement and with the support of a Senior Manager, the Senior Director, Enterprise Strategy leads enterprise-wide strategic planning and execution, ensuring alignment across all functional/LOB priorities including investment, workforce, operational and financial. This role is responsible for shaping and advancing corporate strategy, integrating functional sub-strategies into a unified roadmap that drives organizational ambition and measuring the impact.

As a strategic advisor and internal consultant, the Senior Director partners with executives and business units to define and execute high-impact initiatives, translate complex strategic challenges into actionable plans, and foster sustained value creation. 

The role also facilitates Board and Executive Team strategy discussions, supports senior leader offsites, and drives communication that enables clarity, alignment, and momentum across the organization.

This is a strategy-to-activation role with success being measured by the incumbent's ability to strategize, plan, influence, align, orchestrate and deliver. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Planning

  • Manage enterprise-wide strategic planning and execution, including corporate planning cycles ensuring alignment across the strategic, investment, workforce and financial plans, including the tiered project portfolio.
  • Work collaboratively with executives to develop the Enterprise Business Plan, owning analyses, communications, and content development.

Strategy and Enablement Projects

  • Support the development and execution of the corporate strategy, incorporating key functional sub-strategies into a unified roadmap that drives organizational ambition, focus, and measurable impact.
  • Develop and utilize an effective monitoring framework, including relevant KPIs and processes that will ensure the successful execution of corporate strategy and business plan.
  • Support business unit strategy development and execution, partnering to deliver an integrated strategy and drive common goals that align to the organization's priorities.   
  • Support executives to define scope, design approach, and develop work plans for strategy projects and translate ambiguous strategic issues into clearly defined problem statements, hypotheses, and corresponding analyses.
  • Take a lead role and/or contribute substantively to select strategic initiatives.  Be able to influence, implement, and drive decisions to ensure goals are achieved. 
  • Support related senior leader off sites/events to advance the company’s strategy.

Communication and Relationship Management

  • Effectively communicate insights, ideas, and strategies to an executive level audience in a clear, compelling, and concise manner.
  • Gain the position of trusted advisor and help facilitate trade-off/prioritization decisions with senior leaders, functions, project teams and colleagues.
  • Tailor written and verbal communication based on audience and situation to facilitate productive discussions, foster buy-in, and establish productive working relationships.
  • Proactively maintain relationships with stakeholders, maintain an understanding of new developments in their areas, and identify needs for strategy support.

WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE?

  • Establishing strong relationships across the organization; developing a reputation for proactively engaging and adding strategic value in all levels of planning discussions and engagements;
  • Building alignment and cohesion among the various, disparate streams of strategies across functional and business lines;
  • Taking a lead role in presenting the new business strategy to the Board in October;
  • Playing a lead role in building-out the measurement frameworks and KPIs (short, medium and long term) to support roll-out of the overall corporate strategy following its adoption. 

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Proven experience in a senior strategy role within the pension or asset management sector. 
  • Exceptional strategic acumen with a proven ability to lead enterprise-wide planning and strategy execution across complex organizational structures.
  • Proven project management skills and the ability to move between strategy and activation.
  • Demonstrated experience in shaping and executing corporate strategy, including integration of functional sub-strategies and development of monitoring frameworks.
  • Highly developed leadership and influencing capabilities, with a track record of building trust and alignment across executive and cross-functional teams.
  • Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize ambiguous challenges into actionable insights and frameworks.  Strong communication skills, capable of delivering compelling narratives and facilitating prioritization decisions at the Board and Executive Team level.
  • Recognized for sound judgment, practical execution, and ability to drive measurable outcomes in high-stakes environments.
  • Collaborative mindset with a focus on enterprise value creation, fostering alignment and shared ownership across diverse stakeholders.
