Work location: Winterthur, Switzerland

Workload: 100 % permanent job position

Our client is building the world’s most advanced SMART Factory based in Switzerland. This Smart Factory is a Greenfield project.

Overall Mission

  • Full responsibility for planning, realization, and ramp-up of the Smart Factory intralogistics.
  • Ensure an end-to-end material flow solution from goods receipt to goods issue.
  • Develop an integrated, automated, and software-driven “Zero Touch Logistics” solution with measurable service levels.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Requirements Management & Service Design

  • Establish a structured requirements management process for all stakeholders (Production, Quality, SCM/Purchasing, Service/After Sales, HSE, Facilities/Architecture, IT/ERP).
  • Facilitate and lead interdisciplinary workshops to capture, prioritize, and align requirements.
  • Create and maintain:

-Service catalogs (including logistics services, frequencies, interfaces)

-Line-feeding SLAs (production supply, returns, empties, emergency supply)

-Process maps and end-to-end material flow models

-Decision and assumption logs to document all conceptual foundations

-Ensure traceability from requirements → design → testing → acceptance.

-Collaborate closely with IT, Engineering, and Production to guarantee technical and process consistency.

2. Partner Selection & Procurement Strategy

  • Develop sourcing and partner strategies for intralogistics solutions (automation, software, system integration).
  • Define requirements for technology and implementation partners (functional, technical, operational).
  • Prepare tender documents (RFQ/RFP), including specifications, KPIs, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Evaluate and score suppliers (technical, commercial, schedule-related).
  • Conduct make-or-buy analyses, including 3PL scenarios.
  • Prepare and recommend award decisions jointly with Procurement and Project Management.
  • Build and manage relationships with selected integrators and suppliers.

3. KPIs & Performance Metrics

  • Define and implement logistics performance indicators, including:

-Throughput, availability, accuracy (inventory, pick, ship)

-Dock-to-stock, MTBF/MTTR, OTIF

  • Establish measurement methodology, data collection, and reporting processes.
  • Implement transparent KPI monitoring and dashboard solutions.

4. Data & Capacity Planning

  • Develop a consistent data foundation (master data, transaction data, returns, seasonality).
  • Define throughput, buffer, and warehouse zone capacities.
  • Create material flow diagrams and simulations as the basis for layout and technology selection.

5. Load Carriers & Packaging Materials

  • Define small load carriers (KLT), large load carriers (GLT), pallets, and trays, including labeling (ID, barcode, RFID).
  • Develop standardization concepts in cooperation with Procurement and suppliers (packaging guidelines, ASN/EDI capability).
  • Integrate load carrier concepts into warehouse and transport processes (physical and digital).

6. System & Software Architecture

  • Define architecture boundaries and data flows between ERP/EWM ↔ WCS/MFS ↔ PLC/OT.
  • Design message structures, traceability concepts, monitoring solutions, and GUI requirements.
  • Align IT strategy early (e.g., Black-Box WCS vs. EWM Execution Layer).
  • Ensure cybersecurity, data integrity, and OT/IT convergence.

7. Concept Development & Technologies

  • Derive and evaluate technological concept options (A/B/C), including:

-AMR/AGV, AS/RS, goods-to-person, robotics, conveyor systems.

  • Create layout sketches, performance models, and safety concepts.
  • Conduct CAPEX/OPEX analyses and economic feasibility comparisons.

8. Swiss Compliance & Construction Integration

  • Ensure compliance with national standards and regulations:

-SUVA/EKAS (safety), VKF (fire protection), SIA standards, StFV, ESTI.

  • Integrate requirements into construction and architectural planning (zones, floor loads, escape routes, HVAC, charging infrastructure).
  • Assess structural and safety feasibility.

9. Business Case & Sourcing

  • Develop and assess business cases (ROI, payback period, TCO).
  • Perform make-or-buy analyses including 3PL options.
  • Manage RFQ/RFP processes with performance KPIs, contract appendices, and security requirements.
  • Participate in negotiation, evaluation, and award decision-making.

10. Specification & Implementation

  • Prepare detailed specifications (hardware, software, processes).
  • Manage implementation including emulation/simulation, site coordination, integration, and data migration.
  • Monitor interface compliance and system performance.

11. Testing, Go-Live & Ramp-Up

  • Plan and execute test phases (FAT → SAT → UAT → operational tests).
  • Ensure operational readiness for ORAT handover.
  • Execute cut-over, hypercare, and performance acceptance.
  • Establish the operational organization (L1–L3), including spare parts and maintenance.
  • Define a continuous improvement roadmap (CI) for stable operations.
