LHH is pleased to be supporting a well established and highly regarded regional law firm in the recruitment of an Associate / Senior Associate to join its Commercial Employment team in Preston.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced employment lawyer to join a collaborative and supportive team handling a broad range of contentious and advisory employment matters. The role would suit someone looking to take on high quality work, develop further within a strong regional practice, and play a visible role in client relationships, team development and wider business growth.
The opportunity
Joining a respected employment team, you will manage a varied caseload of employment matters and work closely with colleagues across the wider business on both standalone and cross departmental instructions.
The position offers a strong mix of fee earning responsibility, client contact, advocacy exposure and mentoring, making it well suited to a lawyer who enjoys a broad role and wants to contribute to the continued success of a growing team.
Key responsibilities
You will be involved in:
- Managing a varied and, at times, complex caseload of employment matters
- Attending Employment Tribunal hearings across a range of issues, including:
- Unfair dismissal
- Discrimination
- TUPE
- Redundancy
- Providing clear written and verbal legal advice to clients
- Managing communications with clients, opponents, tribunals and third parties to progress matters effectively
- Completing legal tasks and documentation accurately, including legal research, drafting and financial liability calculations where required
- Supporting colleagues across the wider team and contributing to departmental objectives
- Working collaboratively with other departments on joint matters and projects
- Supervising or mentoring junior team members, including solicitors, trainees and support staff
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and supporting the development of the team's business plan
- Building strong client and stakeholder relationships and supporting wider business development activity
About you
This opportunity is likely to suit a commercially aware and technically strong employment lawyer who enjoys managing their own caseload while also contributing to team development and client growth.
You will ideally have:
- Qualification as a Solicitor or CILEX professional
- At least 3 years' PQE
- Previous experience within employment law
- Proven ability to manage your own caseload and work to deadlines effectively
- Experience generating fees in line with agreed targets
- Strong client care skills, with the ability to provide professional and practical legal advice
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within a team
It would also be advantageous to have:
- Previous experience supervising paralegals, solicitors or more junior team members
- Experience conducting your own advocacy and attending tribunal hearings
- Exposure to business development activity, including networking and identifying opportunities to introduce clients to wider legal services
