Banking & Finance Solicitor (1-2 PQE) | London

A respected UK law firm is looking to appoint a junior Banking & Finance Solicitor to join its growing London practice. This opportunity would suit a lawyer with between one and two years' post-qualification experience who is seeking broader responsibility, direct client exposure and involvement in a diverse range of financing transactions.

The successful candidate will work closely with experienced partners and senior associates on a variety of lending matters, while developing their own client relationships and taking an active role in the continued growth of the team.

The Opportunity

The Banking team advises a broad range of lenders, borrowers and corporate clients on domestic and cross-border financing matters. The role offers excellent exposure to transactional work, client contact and business development initiatives within a collaborative and supportive environment.

This position is particularly well suited to candidates who are keen to accelerate their development by taking ownership of workstreams and becoming involved in all stages of a transaction.

Key Responsibilities

The role will involve a mixture of transactional, client-facing and business development responsibilities, including:

  • Assisting with the execution of a wide range of banking and finance transactions.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating finance documentation and ancillary agreements.
  • Coordinating transaction processes from instruction through to completion.
  • Managing conditions precedent exercises and completion requirements.
  • Supporting clients with practical and commercially focused legal advice.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients, intermediaries and professional contacts.
  • Supervising the work of trainees and paralegals where appropriate.
  • Managing competing deadlines across multiple matters and ensuring work is delivered efficiently.
  • Working closely with colleagues across other practice areas to provide a seamless client service.

Business Development & Profile Building

An important aspect of the role will be supporting the continued growth of the practice. Responsibilities are likely to include:

  • Contributing to client pitches, proposals and marketing initiatives.
  • Attending networking events and industry functions.
  • Building a personal profile within the banking and finance market.
  • Identifying opportunities to strengthen existing client relationships and generate new work.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the firm to encourage cross-referral opportunities.

Candidate Requirements

Applications are welcomed from solicitors qualified in England & Wales with experience gained within a recognised banking and finance team.

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Between 1 and 2 years' post-qualification experience in banking and finance matters.
  • Strong technical drafting and analytical skills.
  • A commercial approach to client service and legal problem-solving.
  • The ability to manage transactions efficiently and proactively.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective time management.
  • Experience working directly with clients and other professional advisers.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Ambition to develop a long-term career within a successful banking practice.

Preferred Experience

While not essential, the firm would be particularly interested in candidates who have gained exposure to:

  • Real estate finance or development finance transactions.
  • Lending work within the health and social care sector.
  • International financing arrangements or cross-border transactions.
