Client Manager / Senior Client Accountant

Location: Wilmslow (Hybrid Working)

Our client is an established and growing accountancy practice, supporting a broad portfolio of SME clients across a range of sectors. They are entering an exciting new phase, including a move to modern premises in the heart of Wilmslow, and are now looking to appoint a Client Manager / Senior Client Accountant to join their team.

Role Overview

You will manage your own portfolio of clients, delivering a high-quality, proactive service across compliance, advisory, and outsourced finance functions. The role offers a varied workload, combining technical accounting, tax, and business advisory, alongside team leadership and client relationship management.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance & Tax

  • Preparation and review of year-end accounts, corporate tax returns, and capital allowance computations
  • Completion of personal tax returns and capital gains tax computations
  • Supporting R&D tax claim implementation
  • Ensuring all compliance work is delivered within agreed deadlines (typically 8-10 weeks post year-end)
  • Assisting with tax planning to optimise client outcomes

Outsourcing & Advisory

  • Managing bookkeeping, VAT, and management accounts for a portfolio of clients
  • Reviewing financial data and ensuring accuracy prior to final review
  • Producing management accounts, forecasts, budgets, and financial analysis
  • Advising clients on profitability, cash flow, and business performance improvements
  • Supporting payroll, P11Ds, and broader finance function services
  • Assisting with business plans, funding processes, and valuations

Client & Team Management

  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Managing deadlines, workflows, and delivery across your portfolio
  • Supporting and mentoring junior team members
  • Promoting the use of cloud accounting systems and process improvements
  • Contributing to business development and growth of the client base

Practice & Operational Support

  • Maintaining accurate records and job tracking systems
  • Supporting onboarding of new clients
  • Assisting with billing, WIP management, and credit control where required
  • Ensuring compliance with internal processes and administrative duties

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' experience within an accountancy practice
  • AAT / ACCA qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience
  • Strong technical knowledge across accounts and tax
  • Experience managing client relationships and workflows
  • Familiarity with cloud accounting software (e.g. Xero, TaxCalc)
