Senior/Managing Associate - Insurance Disputes 6pqe+

An outstanding opportunity has arisen for an experienced disputes lawyer to join a leading international law firm's London office as a Managing Associate within its specialist Insurance Coverage practice.

This role would suit a lawyer with at least six years' post-qualification experience who has developed strong expertise in insurance-related disputes and is looking to take on a prominent role within a highly respected team. The successful candidate will work closely with recognised partners in the field, advising major corporate policyholders on complex and often business-critical claims.

The position offers a combination of high-calibre contentious work, significant client exposure and genuine opportunities to contribute to the future direction of a growing practice.

The Practice

The team advises policyholders rather than insurers and is regularly instructed on some of the most significant insurance disputes in the market. Matters frequently involve complex coverage issues, large-scale losses and multi-jurisdictional considerations.

Clients include listed companies, multinational organisations and large privately owned businesses operating across a wide range of sectors, including financial services, construction, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, retail and real estate.

As part of a broader international disputes platform, the team is able to draw upon specialist expertise across litigation, arbitration, investigations and regulatory matters when advising clients on large-scale disputes.

The Role

This is a senior position requiring both strong technical expertise and the ability to build lasting client relationships.

Responsibilities are likely to include:

  • Running complex insurance coverage disputes from inception through to resolution.
  • Advising corporate clients on contentious insurance issues arising from major claims and losses.
  • Managing litigation strategy and coordinating input from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leading significant workstreams on high-value domestic and international matters.
  • Working directly with senior decision-makers within client organisations.
  • Supporting partners in the development and expansion of key client relationships.
  • Identifying opportunities for additional work across the wider firm.
  • Supervising associates and junior lawyers and assisting with their professional development.
  • Contributing to knowledge initiatives, training programmes and thought leadership projects.
  • Supporting wider business development activity, including client events, market engagement and profile-building opportunities.

Candidate Requirements

The firm is interested in speaking with candidates who can demonstrate:

  • A minimum of 6 years' PQE gained within a recognised disputes practice.
  • Strong experience handling insurance coverage disputes and broader commercial litigation matters.
  • A proven ability to manage complex and high-value cases with confidence and commercial awareness.
  • Experience advising sophisticated corporate clients and maintaining key stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong drafting, analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • An interest in mentoring junior team members and helping to develop talent within the team.
  • Commercial awareness and an enthusiasm for participating in business development initiatives.
  • The ability to work effectively within a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

Career Opportunity

This role presents an excellent platform for an ambitious senior associate looking to step into a more influential position within a market-leading practice. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take ownership of significant matters, strengthen their profile within the insurance disputes market and play a meaningful role in the continued growth of the team.

About the Firm

The firm is widely recognised as one of the leading names in the legal market, advising many of the world's largest businesses, financial institutions and public sector organisations. Its disputes practice enjoys an exceptional reputation for handling complex, high-value and cross-border matters across a broad range of industries.

The culture combines technical excellence with a collaborative and forward-thinking approach, creating an environment where talented lawyers are given the support, responsibility and opportunities needed to build successful long-term careers.
