The Accountant supports the financial operations of the institution by maintaining accurate accounting records, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, and supporting financial reporting for academic and administrative units. This role plays a key part in stewarding institutional funds, including operating, restricted, grant, and endowment accounts, while adhering to higher education accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger accounts

  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end account reconciliations

  • Assist with preparation of financial statements and internal management reports

  • Monitor and reconcile restricted, designated, and grant-funded accounts

  • Support grant and sponsored project accounting, including compliance with federal and state regulations

  • Track expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets and funding sources

  • Assist with annual audits and provide supporting documentation to internal and external auditors

  • Support budget development, forecasting, and variance analysis for academic departments

  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, GAAP, and applicable higher education accounting standards

  • Collaborate with academic departments, research offices, and administrative units to resolve accounting issues

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

  • 2–5 years of accounting experience (experience in higher education, government, or nonprofit preferred)

  • Working knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting principles

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • Experience with Banner highly preferred

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail



Pay Details: $28.00 to $34.00 per hour
