Job Title: Senior Accounts Payable Specialist
Location: Kansas City, MO (Hybrid – In office Wednesdays)
Job Type: Direct Hire
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and professional Senior Accounts Payable Specialist to oversee all accounts payable functions for a small accounting team. This role will serve as the primary point of contact for AP and expense‑related matters, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely processing. The ideal candidate is hands‑on, detail‑oriented, highly responsive, and comfortable working independently as the sole owner of AP.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage full‑cycle accounts payable, including invoice processing, discrepancy resolution, and payment execution via check and ACH
Audit and review credit card transactions and expense reports to ensure proper coding and compliance with internal policies
Serve as the main point of contact for employees regarding expense reports, credit cards, and reimbursement questions
Monitor and respond promptly to AP and expense‑related inboxes, maintaining a high level of internal customer service
Code and review monthly credit card statements and perform reconciliations
Support month‑end close activities by communicating open and expected invoices to the accounting team
Identify 1099‑eligible vendors and prepare and distribute annual 1099s
Assist with onboarding and training employees on expense reporting processes and internal forms
Maintain accurate records and documentation in alignment with accounting standards and internal procedures
Systems & Tools:
Ramp (preferred but no required)
Salesforce / FinancialForce (Certinia) exposure is a plus but not required
Qualifications:
2–3+ years of hands‑on accounts payable experience
Strong understanding of AP fundamentals and expense management
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; polished and professional demeanor
High attention to detail with the ability to independently manage priorities
Comfortable serving as the “face of AP” for internal stakeholders
Prior experience working in a lean or small accounting team environment preferred
Work Schedule:
Hybrid schedule with in‑office presence required one day per week (Wednesdays)
