Accounts Payable Specialist – Legal (Contract-to-Hire | Hybrid – Washington, DC)
LHH is partnering with a reputable law firm in Washington, DC to hire an Accounts Payable Specialist. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity for an experienced AP professional looking to take ownership of the function within a legal environment and grow their career long-term. Contract Rate: $34 – $40/hour
Conversion Salary: $75,000 – $85,000 annually
Role Overview
This position will manage the full-cycle accounts payable process for a law firm environment. As the sole AP professional, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of all payables while partnering closely with attorneys, billing staff, and finance leadership. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced, high-volume setting.
Key Responsibilities
Own the end-to-end accounts payable function, including invoice processing, coding, and payment execution
Process a high volume of invoices with a strong focus on accuracy and timeliness
Collaborate with attorneys, billing coordinators, and finance leadership to resolve discrepancies
Maintain compliance with firm policies and internal controls
Support audit requests and provide documentation as needed
Communicate effectively across departments to ensure smooth AP operations
Identify process improvements and drive efficiencies within the AP workflow
Qualifications
Prior accounts payable experience required, preferably within a law firm or legal environment
Experience with financial systems such as 3E and Chrome River strongly preferred
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Ability to learn systems and processes quickly
