Senior / Lead Accounts Payable Specialist
📍 Hybrid – Montgomery County, PA
We are partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit organization to identify a Senior / Lead Accounts Payable Specialist to join their finance team. This is a highly visible role supporting a complex, multi-program environment with significant impact across the organization.
About the Organization
Our client is a well-established nonprofit dedicated to providing community enrichment services to those in the Greater Philly area. This role plays a key part in ensuring financial accuracy and compliance tied to government funding and program operations.
Position Overview
The Senior / Lead Accounts Payable Specialist will oversee the full-cycle accounts payable function in a high-volume environment. This individual will act as a lead resource, helping to ensure accurate and timely processing, strong internal controls, and support for audits and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable Operations
Process and oversee high-volume AP transactions including invoices, reimbursements, ACH/wire payments, and check runs
Ensure proper coding across GL accounts, programs, grants, and cost centers
Monitor AP aging and support effective cash flow management
Maintain vendor records and ensure compliance with internal policies
Reconciliations & Reporting
Reconcile AP subledger to general ledger on a monthly basis
Support month-end and year-end close activities
Prepare audit schedules and documentation (financial audits, government funding, Medicaid)
Analyze trends, accruals, and outstanding liabilities
Process Improvement & Support
Partner with leadership on process improvements and special projects
Help strengthen workflows, controls, and AP procedures in a complex environment
Leadership / Oversight
Provide guidance and day-to-day direction to AP staff
Support training, onboarding, and team development
Assist in prioritizing workload and ensuring deadlines are met
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
5–7+ years of progressive accounts payable experience
Experience in a high-volume AP environment required
Prior lead or supervisory experience is a plus
Strong understanding of reconciliations and AP processes
Proficiency in Excel and ERP/accounting systems
Experience in nonprofit, government-funded, or multi-entity environments highly preferred
