Accounts Receivable & Collections Specialist
Location: Hybrid in Chicago, IL 60606
Compensation: $26-$29 per hour
Role Overview
This position plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and recoverability of company revenue. The Accounting Specialist partners closely with customers and internal teams to manage receivables, resolve payment issues, and maintain reliable financial records. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to balance analytical work with professional customer communication.
The individual in this role is expected to actively support a collaborative team environment and demonstrate integrity, accountability, and a commitment to continuous improvement in daily work.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure incoming payments are accurately recorded by assisting with daily cash and credit card reconciliation activities
Track customer account balances and proactively support collection efforts for past-due invoices
Serve as a primary point of contact for customers regarding billing questions, payment discrepancies, and account status
Partner with internal departments to investigate and resolve invoicing errors, payment mismatches, or account disputes
Prepare and compile periodic accounts receivable reporting, including aging summaries across multiple business units
Maintain and manage customer-facing AR portals, responding to access or billing-related inquiries
Review new customer credit documentation for completeness and perform preliminary credit assessments
Provide operational coverage for other accounts receivable functions such as invoicing and payment posting when needed
Support process improvements aimed at increasing efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction within the AR function
Skills and Capabilities
Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills
Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail when working with financial data
Confidence and discretion when interacting with customers regarding sensitive financial matters
Solid foundational knowledge of accounting and accounts receivable practices
Self-directed work style with a proactive mindset toward problem-solving and improvement
Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-moving environment
Qualifications
Associate degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Prior experience in accounts receivable, billing, collections, or a related accounting role
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
Experience working with ERP or accounting systems
