This direct-hire, hybrid opportunity is ideal for a hands-on leader who can coach teams, manage payer escalation, and strengthen denial/appeals processes.
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
- Lead day-to-day medical accounts receivable operations, ensuring strong follow-up, resolution, and reimbursement outcomes
- Oversee and optimize workflows related to payment posting, adjustments, denials management, and appeals
- Ensure correct application and governance of contractual/non-contractual adjustments and bad debt codes
- Monitor and address underpayments/low reimbursements, determining when payer escalation or appeals are required
- Guide the team in researching and resolving denials using EOBs and A/R reports, payer rules, and contract/coding guidelines
- Support and/or oversee preparation of written appeals, documentation, corrections, and claim resubmissions
- Partner cross-functionally (billing, coding, front office, leadership) to remove barriers and prevent recurring issues
- Review suspended/problem claims and ensure timely correction and release
- Improve accuracy of insurance verification/updates and appropriate redirection of charges
- Oversee the identification and processing of refunds to patients and payers
- Maintain accountability for daily/weekly reporting, batch balancing, discrepancy resolution, and A/R aging priorities
- Establish and track team performance metrics (e.g., denial turnaround, aging trends, appeal outcomes) and implement process improvements
- Maintain compliance with applicable billing/coding updates and internal policies
- Handle escalated payer and patient billing issues when needed
- Support hiring, training, coaching, and ongoing development of A/R staff
- Leadership experience in healthcare A/R (including denials, appeals, payments, and adjustments)
- Strong understanding of payer behavior, EOB analysis, and reimbursement drivers
- Ability to lead through data: A/R aging trends, denial categories, underpayment patterns
- Confident communicator who can work across departments and handle escalations professionally
- Process-improvement mindset with a hands-on approach
- Salary Range: $75,000–$80,000 (depending on experience)
- Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
