Accounts Receivable Specialist

Houston, TX | On‑Site
Salary: $60,000 – $65,000

A Houston‑based construction organization is seeking an Accounts Receivable Specialist with hands‑on experience in cash applications, collections, and construction lien processes. This role is critical to protecting the company’s legal and financial interests by ensuring lien notices are processed accurately and within strict statutory deadlines.

Why This Role Matters

Timely and accurate lien processing is essential to maintaining legal rights in court. Missing notice deadlines can result in lost claims—particularly in active litigation scenarios involving general contractors. This position plays a direct role in safeguarding revenue and enforcing payment rights.

As lien management transitions to a third‑party provider, this role will focus on building and maintaining a monthly master database, ensuring clean, accurate data is prepared and transferred on schedule. This process will help streamline operations and free up internal resources, while requiring strong ownership, precision, and Excel expertise from the AR Specialist.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply customer payments accurately (checks, ACH, wire, third‑party platforms)

  • Research overpayments, underpayments, and unapplied cash

  • Manage collections efforts and customer payment inquiries

  • Prepare, track, and monitor construction lien notices in compliance with statutory deadlines

  • Maintain documentation supporting lien filings and legal compliance

  • Build and maintain monthly master Excel reports used for lien activity and data transfer

  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy when submitting information to third‑party partners

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to resolve AR discrepancies efficiently

Required Experience & Skills

  • Construction industry experience strongly preferred

  • Background in Accounts Receivable, Cash Applications, and/or Collections

  • Working knowledge of construction lien laws (or strong aptitude and willingness to learn)

  • Strong Excel skills required, including:

    • VLOOKUP (or XLOOKUP)

    • Pivot tables

    • Managing and reconciling large data sets

  • High attention to detail and ability to manage time‑sensitive work

  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills

  • Self‑starter mindset with minimal need for oversight

Nice to Have (Not Required)

  • Prior hands‑on lien processing experience

  • Experience supporting legal or compliance‑driven AR functions

  • Exposure to third‑party lien or notice management platforms
