LHH is working with our dynamic and fast-growing development and construction client in their search for a Senior Construction Controller that will serve as a key financial leader overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, and control functions. This role is responsible for ensuring strong financial discipline across multiple projects, enhancing processes and controls, and partnering closely with executive leadership to support profitable growth and scalability. The ideal candidate brings deep construction accounting expertise, a CPA designation, and proven leadership experience within a dynamic, fast?paced environment.
Job Description
- Lead all accounting functions including general ledger, job cost accounting, WIP, revenue recognition, AR/AP, payroll, and month?end close
- Own preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and construction?specific accounting standards
- Oversee job costing, WIP schedules, percentage?of?completion accounting, and margin analysis
- Monitor project financial performance, cost controls, change orders, and forecasted profitability
- Partner with project managers and operations leadership to identify risks and opportunities
- Design and strengthen internal controls, financial policies, and reporting processes
- Manage audits, tax filings, bonding requirements, and lender reporting
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data across systems
Requirements
- CPA designation (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 7+ years of experience in construction accounting or related industry
- Demonstrated expertise in job costing, WIP, and construction revenue recognition
- Prior leadership or management experience within accounting/finance
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and construction financial best practices
- Experience in a fast?growing or entrepreneurial construction environment
- Exposure to multi?entity structures or complex project portfolios
- Familiarity with construction ERP systems (e.g., Sage, RealPage)
