Accounting & Finance
A well-established nonprofit organization is seeking a strategic and hands-on Controller to lead its financial operations. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, reporting, compliance, and team leadership. The Controller will work closely with the CAO to streamline systems, enhance internal controls, and support organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
Lead financial reporting, general ledger management, and month/year-end closings
Oversee AP, AR, payroll, billing, and fixed asset accounting
Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal/state regulations, and internal policies
Manage audits (financial, pension, workers comp, etc.) and tax filings (990, 5500, 1099s)
Supervise and mentor accounting staff; identify training needs and conduct evaluations
Collaborate on budgeting, forecasting, and investment tracking
Maintain internal controls and optimize accounting systems and processes
Present financials to the Audit Committee and Board
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s and CPA strongly preferred)
7+ years of accounting experience, ideally in a nonprofit setting
2+ years in a leadership role within a finance department
Strong knowledge of fund accounting, GAAP, OMB cost principles, and payroll systems
Proficiency in accounting software, Excel, and financial reporting tools
Strategic thinker with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
