LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a well-established and growing manufacturing organization in the Triad area of North Carolina to identify a Cost Controller. This is a key hire within the finance team, supporting inventory accuracy, cost accounting, and financial reporting in a fast-paced production environment. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in manufacturing accounting combined with hands-on experience managing inventory and month-end close processes.

Cost Controller – Key Responsibilities

  • Lead inventory accounting activities, including costing, valuation, and related journal entries

  • Oversee month-end close responsibilities tied to inventory, including reconciliations, cost of goods sold analysis, and revenue tie-outs

  • Analyze raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods balances to ensure accuracy and proper valuation

  • Partner with operations and finance teams to maintain clean and reliable inventory data within the ERP system

  • Monitor and investigate discrepancies, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions

  • Support financial reporting through detailed analysis of sales, margins, and cost trends

  • Supervise and mentor cost accounting staff, providing guidance on best practices and accuracy standards

  • Manage and support physical inventory counts, cycle counts, and reconciliation to the general ledger

  • Assist with internal and external audit requests by preparing supporting schedules and documentation

  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve reporting, and strengthen internal controls

  • Contribute to special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as requested by leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • 10+ years of experience in accounting, with a strong emphasis on inventory or cost accounting within a manufacturing environment

  • Deep understanding of cost accounting principles, including standard costing, inventory valuation, and COGS analysis

  • Hands-on experience with month-end close and balance sheet reconciliations

  • ERP system experience (manufacturing systems preferred; Epicor is a plus)

  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze and manipulate large data sets

  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving ability

  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with operations, purchasing, and finance teams

  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience is a plus

  • CPA, CMA, or similar certification preferred but not required
