LHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking a Director of Human Resources in St. Louis, MO.  This role partners closely with executive leadership to build, support, and sustain a diverse, inclusive, and high‑performing workforce aligned with the organization’s mission, values, and long‑term goals. The ideal candidate brings strong nonprofit or mission‑based experience, sound judgment, and the ability to balance people‑centered leadership with operational excellence.

Type: Direct Hire/Permanent

Location: St. Louis, MO (100% on-site)

 

Compensation: $120,000 - $135,000 annual

Job Description:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on workforce strategy, organizational design, and people‑related initiatives

  • Develop and implement HR strategies that support the organization’s mission, values, and strategic plan

  • Lead workforce planning, succession planning, and leadership development initiatives

  • Promote a culture of transparency, accountability, equity, and continuous improvement

  • Develop equitable and inclusive hiring practices

  • Partner with department leaders to identify staffing needs and build talent pipelines

  • Oversee employee onboarding, orientation, and offboarding processes

  • Serve as primary point of contact for employee relations matters, coaching leaders and resolving issues with professionalism and discretion

  • Develop and administer performance management processes, goal‑setting frameworks, and evaluation tools

  • Support managers with performance improvement plans, corrective action, and conflict resolution

  • Foster a positive, respectful, and mission‑aligned workplace culture

  • Oversee compensation philosophy, salary structures, and pay equity practices

  • Manage employee benefits programs including health, dental, vision, retirement, leave, and wellness offerings

  • Administer HRIS, payroll coordination, and personnel recordkeeping

  • Partner with Finance on budgeting related to staffing, benefits, and workforce costs

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations

  • Maintain and update employee handbook, policies, and procedures

  • Oversee investigations, documentation, and regulatory reporting as required

  • Manage unemployment claims, workers’ compensation, and other employment‑related matters

  • Design and support training programs for leadership development, compliance, and professional growth

  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across the organization

  • Support staff engagement, recognition programs, and organizational learning efforts

 

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience, including leadership responsibility

  • Strong knowledge of employment law, HR best practices, and compliance

  • Demonstrated experience in employee relations, performance management, and organizational development

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and coaching skills

  • High level of integrity, discretion, and emotional intelligence

  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Nonprofit or mission‑driven organization experience is helpful, but not required



Pay Details: $120,000.00 to $135,000.00 per year
