LHH is partnering with a respected, mission-driven non-profit organization in San Diego to support the search for an experienced HR Director. This organization plays a meaningful role in the community and is seeking a hands-on HR leader who can balance day-to-day operational execution with thoughtful employee support. This is a fully onsite role offering the opportunity to make a direct impact within a collaborative, values-based environment.
The HR Director will oversee all human resources operations, including full-cycle payroll processing, employee relations, compliance, and team leadership. This role is highly hands-on and operational, requiring strong technical skills, advanced Excel capabilities, and comfort working with manual processes. The HR Director will manage and develop a team of 3–5 HR professionals and serve as a key partner to organizational leadership. Availability for some weekends is required to support special events and organizational needs.

Key Responsibilities
- Fully process payroll end-to-end, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Lead employee relations matters, including performance management, investigations, and conflict resolution
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures
- Manage, coach, and develop an HR team of 3–5 employees
- Oversee onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, and HR operations
- Maintain HR records, reporting, and data integrity
- Partner with leadership on workforce planning and organizational initiatives
- Provide on-site HR support during special events, including some weekends
Qualifications
- Proven experience in an HR leadership role; non-profit experience preferred
- Hands-on experience with full-cycle payroll processing
- Strong knowledge of employee relations, compliance, and HR best practices
- Experience managing and developing a small HR team
- Advanced Excel skills and strong overall technical aptitude
- Comfortable working in environments with manual processes
- Excellent communication, judgment, and organizational skills
- Ability to work fully onsite in San Diego
