Location: Portland, OR - fully remote with onsite meetings 1-2 times per month. Candidates MUST be local to Portland, OR or surrounding areas to be considered.
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday–Friday
Compensation: $70,000 – $90,000 DOE
Duration: Contract to hire
About the Role
LHH Recruitment is seeking a proactive, people-focused Human Resources Manager to lead our client's HR functions and oversee a small team. This role combines day-to-day HR operations with strategic partnership to organizational leadership. The HR Manager will manage recruitment, onboarding, employee leaves, benefits administration, unemployment claims, and general HR support while also advising ownership on long-term HR strategy and workforce planning.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & HR Operations
Manage, coach, and develop two HR team members.
Oversee daily HR activities including employee relations, compliance, documentation, and policy administration.
Serve as point-of-contact for HR-related inquiries, offering guidance consistent with company policy and employment law.
Maintain accurate and confidential employee records.
Recruitment & Onboarding
Lead full-cycle recruiting: job posting, screening, interviewing, and coordinating offers.
Partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and refine job requirements.
Oversee onboarding processes to ensure a smooth, engaging new hire experience, including documentation and orientation.
Leave Administration & Compliance
Manage all employee leaves (FMLA/OFLA, ADA accommodations, personal leaves, etc.).
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Support HR investigations, progressive discipline, and corrective action processes.
Benefits Administration
Administer employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and annual open enrollment.
Educate employees on plan options and support them through benefit inquiries.
Unemployment & Risk Management
Manage unemployment claims, documentation, and responses.
Support compliance initiatives, safety programs, and HR audits as needed.
Strategic HR & Organizational Development
Provide insights and recommendations to ownership regarding growth, workforce planning, and long-term HR strategy.
Suggest and implement improvements to HR processes, systems, and policies.
Monitor trends and advise on best practices in employee engagement, retention, and culture-building.
Qualifications
5+ years of progressive HR experience, including HR leadership or team-lead responsibilities.
Strong knowledge of employment law, leaves administration, benefits, and HR compliance.
Demonstrated experience in recruiting and onboarding.
HRIS profiency, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to manage multiple priorities with professionalism and discretion.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and coaching skills.
Must be based in the Portland, OR area and able to work remotely with monthly on-site requirements.
Preferred Skills
Experience within a large organization of 200+ employees.
Ability to influence leadership and guide organizational development.
Pay Details: $70,000.00 to $90,000.00 per year
