Purchasing & Inventory Lead

LHH is recruiting an Inventory/Purchasing Lead for a Direct Hire, Permanent Placement opportunity with a manufacturing client in the Greater Center Point Area. This is a highly visible position supporting day‑to‑day production readiness by ensuring essential tools, supplies, and materials are accessible when required. Direct Hire

Onsite: Center Point, IN Area

Compensation: $50K – $60K annually (flexible based on experience)

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee daily functions of the tool crib, ensuring precise inventory control and material availability.

  • Conduct cycle counts; assess discrepancies; implement corrective steps to prevent future issues.

  • Maintain minimum/maximum thresholds and reorder triggers to avoid production delays.

  • Identify suppliers and secure competitive pricing for tools, supplies, and indirect materials.

  • Generate and distribute purchase orders; verify confirmations and anticipated delivery schedules.

  • Monitor order progress; expedite urgent items; update internal partners regarding delays.

  • Manage receiving paperwork; reconcile packing slips, receipts, and outstanding purchase orders.

  • Maintain purchasing records, supplier files, and documentation required for audits and traceability.

  • Track expenditures and document cost savings from pricing changes, substitutions, and vendor negotiations.

  • Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to forecast demands and standardize frequently used items.

  • Address supplier issues including shortages, incorrect deliveries, and quality problems.

  • Prepare basic reports on inventory turnover, shortages, and purchasing activities.

  • Assist with continuous enhancements in inventory control, organization, and ordering processes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree or a High School diploma with relevant experience will be considered.

  • Minimum of 3+ years of purchasing/inventory experience within a manufacturing environment is required.

  • Must have experience issuing purchase orders and managing vendor communications.

  • Must be able to conduct cycle counts and resolve inventory variances.

  • Experience supporting a tool crib, storeroom, or MRO environment.

  • Experience tracking cost savings and overseeing spend reporting.

  • Experience using an ERP system or inventory management software.

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel for basic data analysis.

  • Working knowledge of receiving documentation, open orders, and record‑keeping practices.

  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks in a fast‑moving, production‑support environment.

  • Clear, professional communication abilities with suppliers and internal departments.

  • Detail‑focused with strong organizational skills and consistent follow‑through.

  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods and function effectively in an active operations setting.
