Payroll Consultant

LHH is partnering with a manufacturing company in Houston, TX to identify a highly experienced Senior Payroll Consultant to support a critical payroll transition. This is an immediate need for a hands-on payroll expert who can step in with minimal training, stabilize operations, and lead process improvements.

 

This role is ideal for a senior-level payroll professional with deep expertise in multi-state payroll, and California payroll compliance. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring payroll continuity, resolving existing issues, and documenting processes.

Hourly pay for the Payroll Consultant ranges between $35 to $45 per hour depending on experience.


Responsibilities

 

• Administer weekly payroll for production personnel and biweekly payroll for corporate staff
   

• Oversee payroll operations for a workforce  across multiple states
   

• Maintain adherence to multi-state payroll regulations, with particular expertise in California requirements (including final pay and tax obligations)
   

• Process wage garnishments, employee deductions, and state-specific payroll adjustments
   

• Investigate and resolve payroll system issues while improving efficiency and workflows
   

• Analyze and correct payroll tax discrepancies
   

• Audit multi-state tax filings to ensure accuracy and compliance
   

• Assist with year-end payroll processing and reconciliation
   

• Develop and document comprehensive payroll procedures to support long-term consistency and scalability

Qualifications

 

• 10+ years of payroll experience with strong hands-on expertise

 

• Advanced UKG experience (front-end and back-end required)

 

• Deep knowledge of multi-state payroll, especially California payroll laws

 

• Proven ability to resolve payroll tax issues and stabilize payroll operations

• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal onboarding

 

Pay Details: $35.00 to $45.00 per hour
