Payroll Specialist

Location: Houston, TX (Onsite with some flexibility)
Salary: $55,000 – $60,000 annually
Employment Type: Full‑Time

Job Overview

A confidential organization in Houston, TX is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to support high‑volume payroll operations in a fast‑paced environment. This role is best suited for a payroll professional who is adaptable, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working with minimal supervision during periods of change.


Key Responsibilities

  • Process payroll accurately across weekly, bi‑weekly, and/or semi‑monthly cycles

  • Support high‑volume payroll for union and non‑union employee populations

  • Balance and reconcile payroll prior to submission

  • Process overtime, bonuses, adjustments, and off‑cycle payrolls

  • Maintain employee payroll records including tax setup, direct deposits, and garnishments

  • Support multi‑state payroll processing and compliance requirements

  • Respond to payroll inquiries from employees and internal partners

  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll and employee data


Qualifications

  • Payroll experience in a high‑volume, deadline‑driven environment

  • Multi‑state payroll experience; California preferred

  • Experience with payroll taxes and garnishments

  • Strong attention to detail and time‑management skills

  • Ability to work independently in a fast‑changing environment

  • Proficiency with Excel and payroll systems


Preferred Experience

  • Union payroll exposure

  • In‑house payroll or gross‑to‑net processing experience

  • Canadian payroll exposure
