Quality Control Manager
Location: Phoenix Metro Area (Field-Based)
Job Summary
The Quality Control Manager is responsible for ensuring that underground utility construction projects meet established quality, safety, and regulatory standards. This role oversees inspections, testing, documentation, and corrective actions to verify that field work complies with approved plans, specifications, and applicable regulations. The Quality Control Manager partners closely with field leadership, safety, and project management to promote consistent workmanship, ensure subcontractor compliance, and drive continuous improvement across projects and crews.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement quality control procedures, inspection checklists, and testing requirements for underground utility construction projects.
- Perform regular field inspections to verify work complies with approved drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
- Oversee required testing and inspection documentation, including compaction, pressure testing, concrete testing, and other municipal testing requirements.
- Document inspection results, track deficiencies, and confirm timely corrective actions are completed.
- Collaborate with Superintendents and Foremen to resolve quality issues in the field.
- Ensure subcontractors adhere to all quality control standards and testing requirements.
- Coordinate with project management to ensure testing reports, inspection records, and quality documentation are completed accurately and filed properly.
- Support accurate as-builts and project closeout documentation.
- Review material submittals and verify materials installed in the field meet project specifications.
- Assist with training field personnel on quality standards, workmanship expectations, and inspection procedures.
- Analyze inspection and testing trends to identify recurring issues and recommend process improvements.
- Lead root-cause investigations related to quality issues, rework, or non-conformances.
- Maintain organized quality documentation for audits, compliance reviews, and project closeout.
- Work closely with Safety and Operations leadership to align quality and safety initiatives.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in underground utility, heavy civil, or related construction quality control.
- Strong knowledge of municipal wet utilities, excavation, backfill, and compaction practices.
- Working knowledge of municipal and industry testing standards, including MAG requirements.
- Familiarity with applicable ASTM, environmental, and OSHA standards.
- High attention to detail with strong documentation and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and construction documentation systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and testing reports.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites throughout the Phoenix metro area.
- Relevant QC / QA certifications preferred.
Work Environment
This position involves a combination of field and office work, including:
- Regular exposure to outdoor construction environments, including heat, dust, and noise.
- Moderate physical activity such as walking job sites, standing for extended periods, and navigating uneven terrain.
- Office-based work requiring extended use of computers and project documentation systems.

Pay Details: $90,000.00 to $125,000.00 per year
