Temporary Senior Cost Accounting Analyst (Contract-to-Hire Potential)

Location: NW Portland, OR
Schedule: Hybrid (1–2 days per week onsite)
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Compensation: $50–$60/hour
Duration: 6-Month Contract with Potential for Conversion

About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking a Temporary Senior Cost Accounting Analyst to support its Finance and Operations teams during a critical period of business growth and operational demand. This role will play a key part in maintaining accurate inventory valuation, cost reporting, and manufacturing cost analysis while partnering closely with cross-functional teams to drive financial accuracy and operational insights.

The ideal candidate will have strong manufacturing cost accounting experience, thrive in a data-driven environment, and possess the curiosity and persistence to investigate discrepancies and identify opportunities for improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Accounting & Inventory Management

• Support month-end cost accounting and inventory close activities
• Review inventory transactions and investigate discrepancies or missing data
• Maintain accurate inventory and work-in-process records
• Analyze inventory valuation and cost of goods sold (COGS) reporting
• Assist with intercompany accounting and vendor cost verification

Standard Costing & Product Costing

• Maintain and audit Bills of Material (BOMs)
• Develop, update, and analyze standard costs for materials and products
• Perform cost roll processes and evaluate cost changes
• Support costing activities related to new products and product modifications

Manufacturing Cost Analysis

• Analyze manufacturing, labor, material, and overhead variances
• Investigate actual-versus-standard cost differences and identify root causes
• Monitor operational performance and communicate actionable insights
• Partner with Operations and Supply Chain teams to understand key cost drivers

Financial Planning & Reporting

• Prepare account reconciliations and supporting schedules
• Support budgeting and forecasting activities
• Assist with management reporting and operational analysis
• Create tools and reports that improve visibility into product and operational profitability

Process Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve cost accounting processes and controls
• Support system enhancements, reporting automation, and process documentation
• Help drive consistency and efficiency across accounting functions

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of cost accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment
• Strong experience with manufacturing cost variance analysis
• Experience supporting budgeting and forecasting processes
• Hands-on experience conducting BOM analysis and audits
• Ability to research discrepancies, identify root causes, and follow through to resolution
• Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Systems Experience

• Microsoft Dynamics 365
• Workday Adaptive Planning
• Advanced Microsoft Excel
