Senior Electrical Engineer Mission Critical / Data Center Facilities
LHH's Supply Chain & Engineering Search team is partnering with a leading MEP consulting organization to hire a Senior Electrical Engineer focused on mission critical and high availability facilities. This role sits at the center of complex, zero downtime environments and requires deep technical expertise in critical power system design, redundancy strategies, and fully coordinated MEP delivery.
This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer to lead electrical design, mentor junior staff, and work directly with owners, architects, and contractors on some of the most technically demanding projects in the industry.
Core Responsibilities
Lead the design of mission critical electrical systems supporting zero downtime operations
Design and analyze utility service and power distribution systems (medium and low voltage)
Develop fault tolerant and maintainable power architectures, including N+1 and 2N redundancy
Perform load calculations, short???circuit, coordination, and arc???flash studies
Design and integrate:
UPS systems
Standby generators and paralleling gear
ATS and STS systems
Switchgear, PDUs, busway, panelboards, and distribution equipment
Coordinate electrical systems tightly with mechanical and plumbing disciplines, particularly where cooling depends on power continuity
Support commissioning, integrated systems testing, and construction administration
Review submittals, RFIs, and field conditions; support work in live and retrofit environments
Lead quality control reviews and maintain rigorous documentation standards
Mentor junior engineers and designers while maintaining technical accountability for assigned projects
Mission Critical Experience Required
Strong candidates will have direct experience designing systems for environments where downtime is unacceptable, including:
Data centers (enterprise, colocation, hyperscale)
Network operations and telecommunications facilities
Healthcare and life safety critical environments
Financial trading and transaction facilities
Government, defense, or public???safety command centers
Semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, or high???performance computing facilities
Technical Skill Set
Critical power system design for Tier II, Tier III, and Tier IV environments
Deep understanding of UPS, generator, and STS/ATS topologies
Electrical system integration within fully coordinated MEP models
Strong command of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and AHJ requirements
Ability to exceed minimum code to support uptime, resilience, and maintainability
Proficiency with Revit MEP and AutoCAD for coordinated design delivery
Experience working within BIM models for clash detection and constructability
Familiarity with electrical analysis and modeling tools
Leadership & Professional Qualifications
8-15+ years of electrical engineering experience
Background in MEP consulting (mission critical focus required)
Professional Engineer (PE) strongly preferred
Ability to lead electrical design on complex, schedule driven projects
Strong communication skills with owners, architects, and contractors
