Temporary Accountant

We are partnering with a dynamic organization in the Grand Rapids area seeking a Temporary Accountant to support the accounting team during a period of transition and increased workload. This role offers an excellent opportunity for candidates who are immediately available and enjoy working in fast-paced environments.
The Temporary Accountant will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close, and assisting with reconciliation and reporting efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Perform balance sheet and account reconciliations
Assist with month-end close activities, including journal entries and accruals
Analyze financial data and investigate variances
Maintain general ledger activity and ensure accuracy of financial records
Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed
Prepare and review financial reports and supporting schedules
Assist with cleanup of backlog or incomplete accounting records
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve discrepancies and improve processes
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
1–5+ years of accounting experience (staff accountant or similar)
Strong understanding of general ledger, balance sheet and reconciliation processes
Experience supporting month-end close
Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, vlookups, or similar functions)
Experience with accounting systems such as QuickBooks, SAP, NetSuite, or similar is a plus
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Experience
Prior experience in a contract or interim accounting role
Exposure to multi-entity or high-volume environments
