Senior Accountant in Bellport, New York

LHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking an experiened Senior Accountant to work for an exciting company in the Patchogue, NY area.

Job Purpose:

The Senior Accountant position is responsible for preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, develop and maintain a documented system of sales tax compliance policies and procedures. Research multi state sales and use tax related issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist Controller with the month-end close to deliver timely financial statements to Executive Management

Prepare detail gross profit reporting and analysis by client and line of business

Maintain and reconcile balance sheet and general ledger accounts

Prepare various financial analysis and reports

Manage the company’s TIN Match program. Prepare and file annual 1099s and 1096

Process and file multi state annual reports

Compile information for financial and compliance audits

Monitor and maintain multi state sales tax records. This includes but not limited to:

Review invoices and proposals for appropriate taxation and coding

Professionally respond to tax notifications in a timely manner

Research sales tax, use tax, and tax codes for compliance

Prepare and analyze supporting documentation for sales tax audits, as needed

Maintain and synchronize the Company’s sales tax database with its 3^rd party tax engine.

Reconcile and process the Company’s daily sales tax commitments

Control and monitor the Company’s resale certificates and exemptions

Review and approve multi state sales and use tax returns

Assist with special finance and tax projects or initiatives as required

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

5+ years’ experience in Accounting and/or Taxation required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Tax required

Working knowledge of GAAP

Prior experience in preparing multi-state sales and use tax returns

Familiarity with SALT laws and experience with Avalara preferred

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Intermediate to proficient level utilizing Microsoft Office applications

Excellent organizational skills

Ability to prioritize tasks
