LHH is recruiting a Commercial leasing paralegal for a boutique business law firm in the Loop. The Paralegal, under the direction of the Real Estate attorneys, will assist attorneys in connection with a variety of commercial leasing transactions encompassing office, retail and industrial properties.


Responsibilities:

  • Prepare initial drafts of lease documents for attorney review.
  • Research proper entity formation and registration for parties to lease transaction.
  • With attorney direction, distribute drafts of lease documents.
  • Assure quality control by checking lease documents against letter of intent and cross-checking calculations, dates, usage of defined terms and other critical details.
  • Maintain and update client lease form files, including leases, amendments, termination agreements, guaranties, subordination/nondisturbance agreements, and sublease and assignment documents.
  • Prepare and review lease abstracts.
  • Assist in review of drafts of letters of credit provided for lease security.
  • Prepare lease document exhibits and assist with assembly of final documentation.
  • Prepare clear and concise correspondence and memorandum.

  • Essential Job Functions:

  • Proven analytical, organizational and supervisory skills and ability to pay very close attention to detail.
  • Ability to be flexible, multi-task, handle pressure and prioritize workflow.
  • Proven ability to problem solve, think independently and tackle projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with colleagues, both internal and external, clients and opposing parties on all levels.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proven ability and aptitude to work with numbers, calculations, etc.
  • This position is in a critical needs area and from time-to-time incumbent may need to arrive early, stay late or work weekends with little or no notice on occasion, and may be asked to assist other real estate and non-real estate attorneys and paralegals.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills, including an extensive knowledge of Excel and WORD including the ability to merge files and databases, and the ability to conduct on-line research of public offices for tax, recording, zoning and other information.

  • Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years previous experience in commercial real estate transactions, including substantial experience with lease documentation, either at a law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Legal Assistant certificate required.
