Job Brief:

The Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer works with manufacturing, logistics, supply chain management, and automotive program management to assess quality of external providers (suppliers, outside processors, and service providers) to ensure quality of products and services and compliance with specifications and regulatory requirements.


Coordinates the approval process for new providers, including 2nd party audits as necessary. Monitors provider performance and initiates claims and corrective actions to recover costs and improve quality of externally sourced materials and services. Works to develop providers in accordance with corporate Quality Management System requirements.


Maintains accurate quality records of provider qualification and performance. Provide analysis of provider performance for management review. Maintains a supplier database that includes performance evaluations and quality audits for in-house access by company and manufacturing management personnel


Communicates with providers regularly to address any concerns and foster an environment that facilitates continual improvement in working relationships

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for the supplier quality function, assisting in the development and implementation of supplier management programs and establishing quality objectives for suppliers.
  • Champion the implementation of the corporate Supplier Quality Manual requirements with providers.
  • Ensure providers meet all regulatory and company requirements
  • Perform quality audits of suppliers, travel may be as much as 50% of the time
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers
  • Track supplier performance and qualify or disqualify suppliers according to corporate standards.
  • Report on provider performance and quality to management. Promote initiatives to improve quality of supplied materials and services. Initiate and report on supplier evaluation/scorecards with Operations, Procurement, and Quality management. Make appropriate recommendations and set timetable for improvement and corrective actions.
  • Maintain supplier quality records
  • Assess and coordinate Supplier Change Requests
  • Performs other duties as required

    Education & Background:


    .


    BS in metallurgical engineering or related technical field.


    7+ years experience of quality-associated management experience involving supplier quality and including quality auditing in a manufacturing plant environment.


    Experience with quality management systems, standards, and related tools:

  • Significant knowledge and experience in IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • ISO/IATF Internal Auditor, or Lead Auditor experience preferred. Knowledge and experience in performing supplier quality system and process audits.
  • Knowledge of AIAG’s “5 Quality Core Tools”: Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
  • Additional experience with statistics, GD&T, DOE, and sampling.
  • Experience with corrective action/problem-solving methodology, including 8D methodology.

  • Advanced knowledge of manufacturing and production process.


    Ability to understand mechanical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.


    ASQ Certification as a Supplier Quality Professional (CSQP), or Quality Engineer (CQE) is a plus.

    Reasoning and Problem Solving Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and specifications in written or diagram form, including drawings, and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.

    Computer Skills and Abilities: Strong computer skills, able to work with standard programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.), and statistical programs (e.g. Minitab). Able to learn and use the company’s ERP system and other specialized software, as applicable.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess a valid driver’s license and passport for business travel including customer and supplier meetings, seminars, etc.
