Senior Payroll Administrator

A well-established organization in the energy services sector is seeking a Senior Payroll Administrator to join its Houston-based team.

Position Overview:

This role is ideal for a seasoned payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is ready to take ownership of complex payroll operations. The selected candidate will play a critical role in supporting the transition to Workday Payroll. The position reports directly to a highly experienced and supportive Payroll Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage bi-weekly payroll processing across multiple U.S. states, including garnishments, benefits, and tax compliance.

  • Prepare and reconcile payroll journals for monthly close and audit readiness.

  • Handle special payroll runs such as bonuses, commissions, and off-cycle payments.

  • Review and transmit NACHA files and ensure timely direct deposit execution.

  • Support quarterly and annual payroll tax filings via third-party systems.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve payroll discrepancies and ensure data integrity in Workday.

  • Assist with system updates, testing, and documentation related to payroll processes.

  • Respond to employee and manager inquiries regarding timecards and payroll issues.

  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with SOX and internal controls.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years of in-house payroll experience, including multi-state payroll tax.

  • Extensive hands-on experience with Workday Payroll is a must.

  • Strong proficiency in Excel and familiarity with Oracle is a plus.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism.

Compensation & Schedule:

  • Salary range: $68,000 – $76,000 annually (equivalent to $33–$37/hour).

  • Exempt role with flexible hours (7–4 or 8–5).

  • No overtime expected.
