Senior Staff Accountant

Our client is looking for a Senior Staff Accountant to join their team! This is an exciting leadership role with a $100M+ market leader, operating in multiple locations in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. You will report directly to the Financial Controller and be responsible for the monthly close, payroll, financial accounting, sales taxes, and monthly reconciliations. Hybrid role.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing hyper-seasonal reporting and reconciliation related to deferred revenue and payroll reconciliation
  • Assisting with annual audits and tax return preparation, working with outside auditors and internal team.
  • Managing the month-end close for multi-state and multi-national affiliates (US, Canada, Puerto Rico).
  • Assisting with local and state sales tax filings by working with Avalara.
  • Acting as intermediary with outside tax and annual reporting companies.
  • Review/preparation of balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Serving as a mentor, helping provide training and coaching to the accounting team.
  • Improving existing processes with a goal of automating as much as possible.
  • Managing fixed asset close through the accounting and fixed asset systems.
  • Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • At least 4-5 years’ experience in a General Ledger accounting position or equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP.
  • Advanced use of Microsoft Excel to perform spreadsheet and financial analysis, pivot tables.
  • Experience with NetSuite accounting software and month end close.
  • Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate successfully with both local and remote team members.
  • Ability to deliver effective results and meet tight deadlines and targets
  • Ability to work flexible hours (including evenings and weekends) in season (Easter / Christmas).
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 years previous accounting experience in a retail environment.
  • CPA or CMA
  • Experience with Avalara sales tax filing software is a plus
