Job Title: Controller
Location: New York, NY (Office-based) Hybrid 4 days in-office
Reports To: Managing Director
Direct Reports: 2
LHH is partnering with a boutique wholesale alcoholic beverage company to recruit a dynamic and experienced Controller. This key leadership role is responsible for the full spectrum of financial management, including corporate accounting, financial and regulatory reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls. The Controller will also oversee HR functions, office operations, and compliance, managing two direct reports.
Key Responsibilities
Finance & Accounting
Oversee all accounting operations: billing, accounts receivable/payable, general ledger, cost and inventory accounting, revenue recognition, and coordination with legal counsel.
Lead the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts; analyze and report on variances.
Produce timely and accurate monthly financial statements and profit & loss reports.
Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
Research and resolve complex accounting issues to ensure GAAP compliance.
Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
Collaborate with external CPA firm for annual audits.
Maintain high standards of quality control over financial transactions and reporting.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax filings, including Beverage Tax.
Develop and implement internal controls, accounting policies, and business processes.
Perform additional duties as needed to support financial operations.
HR & Office Operations
Oversee payroll processing, benefits administration, and limited HR responsibilities.
Manage brand registrations and licensing requirements.
Maintain relationships with landlords, tenants, and service providers.
Supervise office supply procurement and expense tracking.
Qualifications
Proven experience as a Controller or in a similar senior finance role.
10+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred.
Deep understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
Proficient in general ledger management and financial statement preparation.
Strong experience with month-end/year-end close processes.
Advanced proficiency in accounting software; experience with Acumatica is a plus.
Technologically adept, with experience in software implementation and vendor management.
Demonstrated leadership in recruiting, mentoring, and retaining diverse teams.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to present financial data to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion.
Pay Details: $100,000.00 to $120,000.00 per year
