The Benefits Specialist is responsible for the administration and communication of employee benefits programs across the organization. This includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement plans, wellness initiatives, and leave programs. This is a Contract position located near Oak Brook, IL.
Key Responsibilities
- Resolve second-level employee benefits issues escalated through HR.
- Monitor benefits data processing and ensure accurate data transfer for enrollments and plan administration.
- Coordinate Open Enrollment, compliance testing, and annual benefits renewal processes.
- Oversee COBRA, FMLA, short-term disability claims, and monthly premium billing.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, including ACA and ERISA.
- Support wellness initiatives, including biometric screenings and incentive programs
- Serve as the primary contact for benefits vendors and third-party administrators.
- Ensure vendor compliance with plan rules, reporting, and service-level agreements.
- Participate in audits and filings such as 5500s, Summary Annual Reports, and Summary Plan Descriptions.
- Develop and implement communication strategies for benefits education.
- Assist employees with benefits inquiries, enrollment, and life event changes.
- Maintain and monitor the benefits inbox and ticketing systems (e.g., Zendesk)
- Assist with salary surveys, market pricing, and compensation benchmarking.
- Support the Director of Total Rewards with compensation-related projects and documentation
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in benefits administration; compensation experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of benefits laws and regulations (e.g., FMLA, ACA, HIPAA).
- Proficiency in HRIS systems (e.g., ADP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
- SHRM or CEBS certification preferred
