LHH is seeking a skilled and experienced Underwriter with a minimum of three (3) years in medical professional insurance to support a Dental Group in Sacramento, CA. This position is 90% remote, but must be willing to attend quarterly meetings ONSITE.
Responsibilities:
Analyze new business applications, renewal questionnaires, and endorsement requests to achieve profitable underwriting results, making sound decisions through loss exposure analysis.
Maintain and grow the book of business by promptly responding to inquiries and ensuring policy retention. Independently discuss accounts with claims and risk management for additional information assessment.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, agents, and other business contacts, providing excellent customer service to policyholders.
Compile and interpret data for the evaluation of the assigned book of business, assisting Senior Underwriters in presenting potential accounts for non-renewal when necessary.
Communicate with applicants, policyholders, claims, risk management, state agencies, and others regarding coverage, premium acceptability, and policy language.
Assist in the training of other departments/companies as needed, providing expertise and acting as a resource to less experienced underwriting staff.
Research and analyze underwriting topics related to state regulatory requirements, the dental practices act, and interact with state licensing boards to verify the status of applicants and policyholders’ state dental licenses.
Review reports, process changes, and ensure strict compliance with regulatory requirements.
Represent underwriting in meetings and seminars, completing special projects as directed by management.
Essential Competencies:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience.
Property and Casualty License is required; willingness to obtain if not held.
AIS designation required; progress towards AU, ARM, RPLU, CPCU.
Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Excellent communication, relationship, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
Required Experience:
Minimum of three years of experience in medical professional and/or commercial insurance.
Proven ability to make sound underwriting decisions and maintain profitability.
Familiarity with multi-product, multi-state exposures.
Commitment to continuing education to keep licenses current.
