Benefits Specialist

LHH is seeking a Benefits Specialist in San Diego, CA. This is a TEMPORARY position that will last from 3-6 months with the possibility to convert to Permanent Employee. Starting rate will be between 20.00-22.00 dollars an hour.

Main Duties:

  • Ensures accuracy of benefit program enrollments/deductions in the HRIS by verifying team member benefit eligibility, reviewing/approving Self-Service enrollments, entering benefit and wellness program enrollment data in HRIS, reviewing supporting documents and HRIS data entries for completion and accuracy, correcting entries as needed, canceling or ensuring enrollment of team members affected by status changes, entering team member cancelations and transfers and confirming implementation of appropriate payroll deductions, and reconciling discrepancies.
  • Advises team members, management staff and Human Resources staff on benefit policies and procedures by responding to inquiries regarding the processing and provisions of benefit plans including, but not limited to, the 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, Flexible Spending Accounts, Life Insurance, Long Term Disability, Leave of Absence, Holiday and Paid Time Off policies, and incentive programs.
  • Presents Benefits information at New Team Member Orientations and Open Enrollment meetings and assists with benefits enrollment.
  • Constantly monitors personal mailbox, HR Benefits mailbox and voice messages and responds to inquiries within 1 business day.
  • Assists with the Open Enrollment process.
  • Assists with the administration of the Wellness Program by sourcing vendors, getting them approved by the Gaming Commission, providing information about the program to team members, promoting events and participation, and tracking and entering earned discounts in HRIS.
  • Provides the Payroll Department with an accurate accounting of Human Resources staff members' time and attendance by ensuring payroll is complete and accurate, communicating unusual findings to the staff member’s Manager for correction, communicating with the Payroll Department on payroll related matters, and answering team member’s questions regarding pay and timekeeping policies and procedures.
  • Processes benefits and retirement documents such as National Medical Support Notices, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services forms, State Disability Insurance claims, life insurance claims and retirement plan withdrawals and death claims.
  • Processes Unemployment Claims by receiving claim and hearing notices from the Third Party Administrator (TPA), conducting a case analysis to identify appropriate witnesses to attend hearing, copying claimants' termination information and/or documents, forwarding documents and witness lists to the TPA, notifying and providing witnesses with relevant documents and information for hearings, and coordinating hearing representation with the TPA.
  • Assists with the administration of ACA which includes assigning measurement periods, reviewing eligibility, reaching out to managers for clarification and status changes, and reviewing 1095-Cs.
  • Manages Medical, Personal and Military Leaves of Absence by providing guidance to managers, returning Team Members to their roles, exploring temporary accommodations or working with the HRBPs on terminations.
  • Keeps up-to-date Benefits records by scanning or filing documents in their corresponding location on a timely basis.
  • 13. Conducts periodic audits by running reports in HRIS or carrier websites to ensure correct plan enrollment, data accuracy and legal compliance.
  • Experience

  • Associate’s Degree in Human Resources, or related field or equivalent experience
  • 3 years administrative experience
  • Skills Must Haves:

  • Compose, read and edit written documents
  • present on compile data in an understanding and empathetic way
  • Proficiency with database and word processing applications
  • Ability to complete forms and documents, record keeping time management
  • Maintain professionalism and take direction

  • Compensation:

  • Hourly rate is 20.00$-22.00$ or more depending on experience.
