The Insurance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that the claim's timely registration and insurance coverage areas are completed accurately per the information available. This includes completing and updating patient registration such as demographics, insurance coverage and responsible party. This position will also complete registrations with the required information to submit a clean claim. This position will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, patients, clinical staff, and insurance companies.
Responsibilities include:
- Understands the revenue cycle and corrects selection and entry of all front-end related information.
- Performs data entry functions in integrated systems.
- Updates patient registration information such as demographics, insurance coverage information and emergency contacts.
- Performs insurance discovery, verification and action on the results as needed.
- Ensures referrals and authorizations are obtained when required by the payor; notifies appropriate team and assists with obtaining the referral or authorization when needed.
- Ensures necessary consent and HIPAA forms are signed.
- Identifies duplicate accounts and requests review for resolution from the Supervisor.
- Corrects edits or errors within the system.
- Collaborates verbally and in writing with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensures effective communication at multiple levels.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical Degree in Health Care or Business Office studies, preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience in a similar role or position is required.
- 2 years' experience in Health care registration work, preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
