A company located in Troy, VA (located off I-64, between Goochland and Charlottesville) is searching for a permanent Payroll Accountant, to work in the office. This is a full-time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5 pm

Permanent Salary Range: $50K to $75K

Summary/Objective: A Construction company is searching for an experienced and motivated Payroll Specialist to join our accounting team. The Specialist will be responsible for compiling and maintaining all construction payroll, providing weekly and bi-weekly gross pay to our parent company for ADP processing, and reconciling to final payroll reports. They will also be responsible for new employee on-boarding and working with our parent HR team on all payroll issues, recommending and implementing corrective actions. The ideal candidate will have experience in job costed, multi-state and government contracts payroll, as well as experience with Viewpoint Vista and ADP WN.

Tasks:

• Assist and support operations with timely and accurate payroll time reporting

• File and maintain employee data, payroll related documents and records in a timely and orderly manner

• Process 3 payroll cycles, two weekly and one bi-weekly, as well as ad hoc payrolls as required

• Export and import data between payroll systems, reconciling between the two in order to maintain proper accounting and data integrity

• Record and reconcile payroll cash transactions and maintain reconciliations of all payroll GL accounts. Recommend and prepare journal entries as needed

• Prepare and provide weekly certified payroll for all jobs subject to Davis Bacon Act, using a combination of electronic and manual reporting with government agencies or project owners

• Collect, review and provide certified payroll reports required from subcontractors

• Maintain knowledge and system setup of multi-state compliance, including taxation and reciprocity rules

• Maintain knowledge and system setup of Davis Bacon reporting requirements in general, as well as wage determinations at the job level

• Collect tax filings from parent company, review and reconcile

• Assist with audits as necessary, including, but not limited to, insurance audits and outside independent audit

• Assist operations with inquiries related to expenses posted to jobs, provide weekly reporting of job cost details or summary as required

Competencies:

• 3-5 years experience owning payroll administration in a construction/government contract, multi-state environment

• Proven ability to resolve issues related to earnings, taxes and payroll-related compliance

• Proven understanding of payroll related GL accounts and GAAP reporting

• Must be a meticulous, resourceful, and approachable self-starter with great analytical and mathematical abilities

• Clear skill and will to solve problems, recommend and implement solutions

• Experience using ADP Workforce Now and/or Viewpoint Vista highly preferred

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products required

• Ability to handle complex projects both alone and in a team environment

• Proven ability to work closely and communicate well with all levels of co-workers, from on-boarding field personnel to answering questions from the President

Required Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent

• 3-5 years of construction payroll preparation experience

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Associates degree in accounting preferred but not required
