Human Resources Assistant

LHH is seeking a motivated and self-starting candidate for a direct hire HR Assistant role in downtown D.C. This position will be a great introduction into an HR role, or it could be a great additional experience to grow your skills. We are searching for someone who wants to be a valued contributor and member of a talented and dynamic team of lawyers, paralegals, and staff.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Acts as the first point of contact for the HR Department

Answers and screens incoming telephone calls

Assists directly with routine inquiries from employees and staff

Processes new hires in HR system and E-Verify

Processes and files departmental notifications for all new hires, departures, changes and moves across the offices

Processes invoices and maintains information related to the department budget

Coordinates travel for staff

Processes expenses and reimbursements

Maintains timesheet software and approval of staff timesheets, and answers related questions as needed

Creates and maintains personnel files; manages the file room

Coordinates employee appreciation gifts as well as arrangements for sick employees, bereavement, condolences, etc.

Completes and tracks routine inquiries from outside the firm on matters such as employment verifications

Plans, coordinates, and assists in the execution of meetings and firm events hosted by HR

Updates employee directories and Human Resources pages in conjunction with changes

Documents and processes workers’ compensation claims

Coordinates schedules for HR management

Assists in recruiting efforts with job postings and scheduling

Assist the Talent Acquisition Coordinator in onboarding by creating orientation schedules, providing basic paperwork for new hire orientation, and entering new hires into system

Coordinates and assists with surveys specific to the HR department

Assists with participant database maintenance for employee information and benefits open enrollment

Conducts research, gathers data, and disseminates information on behalf of the Director of HR

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Bachelor’s degree is required

2+ years of administrative experience required

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skill

Maintain a high degree of confidentiality

Ability to work well with a team

Present in a professional manner

Proven analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS Office Suite with proficiency in Outlook and high proficiency in Excel

Previous experience with HR functions preferred

Prior experience in ADP Workforce Now is preferred

Previous experience in a law office or professional services highly preferred
