Our client is in search of an experienced director to lead a team of manufacturing engineers providing direction throughout each of their manufacturing facilities on model plant vision, automation, manufacturing engineering benchmark best practices, process improvements, layouts, and material flow. The individual will assume responsibility for bringing a culture of innovation to the manufacturing processes and methods to ensure consistent implementation of these systems across all plants globally. The next 24 months will be an exciting time with several expansion and new plant projects underway.




KEY DELIVERABLES


  • Lead global innovation and modernization in manufacturing processes and automation, enhancing operational efficiencies in machining, robotic welding, assembly, painting, e-coating, and hydrotesting.
  • Design sustainable automation and manufacturing processes to enhance energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
  • Champion Industry 4.0 initiatives, including digital tracking and predictive maintenance systems.
  • Standardize best-in-class manufacturing processes, tools, and documentation
  • Lead infrastructure planning and operational ramp-up for new plants.
  • Collaborate with engineering and value stream teams during product design stages, conducting DFx reviews, and offering recommendations.
  • Develop best practices and work instructions for each product line within each plant that streamline processes, reduce product variation, and improve cost-efficiency and process tact times.
  • Lead the development of new processes and manufacturing methods with a focus on capacity improvements and efficiency.
  • Manage the job knowledge requirements program, time studies, routing, and work instruction updates.
  • Lead all aspects of annual capital expenditures (budgeting, planning/specification, business case development, sourcing, vendor negotiations, project management, installation, and commissioning).
  • Benchmark and identify Model plant metrics, behaviors and milestones for measurement of continuous improvement in lean manufacturing processes.
  • Create and champion a global waste elimination strategy by consolidating ideas from all plants, tracking costs, and overseeing implementation.
  • Engage direct reports and matrix-reporting teams in projects to enhance collaboration and effectiveness, while promoting a culture of innovation, accountability and operational excellence across engineering, supply chain and product management.



REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND CAPABILITIES



The ideal candidate will possess the following experience, knowledge, skills, and attributes:


  • Engineering degree, preferably in Mechanical, Industrial, or Mechatronics Engineering. P.Eng. required.
  • 15+ years of experience in manufacturing processes, plant engineering, and distribution operations in precision-driven, custom-order manufacturing environments.
  • Extensive domain knowledge and proven experience in industrial automation within a configure-to-order manufacturing environment.
  • Strong lean manufacturing expertise, demonstrated through successful projects impacting SQDIC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Cost).
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement principles and general practices.
  • Superior experience in Manufacturing Engineering process development and implementation in a global environment.
  • 5 years of machine shop experience, specifically in CNC machining and optimization.
  • Experience working in agile and matrix organizational structures, collaborating closely with product management to implement new and enhanced products.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and conflict management within both centralized and matrix organizational structures.
  • Ability to simplify complex problems, conduct root cause analysis, and provide clear, well-considered recommendations.
  • Strong team-oriented leadership skills with a commanding presence and a bias for action.
  • Self-directed, capable of working autonomously and collaboratively, with a strong focus on results.
