Financial Controller

Full-Time | Exempt | Albuquerque, NM
Salary Range: $120,000 – $160,000 annually

Position Summary

A fast-growing, multi-location organization is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Financial Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations. Reporting directly to executive leadership, the Controller will oversee all accounting functions, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide actionable insights to support strategic decision-making. Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Lead all accounting operations including payroll, accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and revenue recognition.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings.
  • Maintain and enhance financial policies and procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency.

Regulatory Compliance & Tax

  • Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
  • Manage multi-entity financial reporting and compliance requirements.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and present monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) in accordance with GAAP.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide recommendations to improve financial performance.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to leadership.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and monitor ongoing budget adherence.
  • Collaborate with department heads to align financial planning with operational goals.

Audit & Internal Controls

  • Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors and regulatory agencies.
  • Develop and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Conduct periodic internal audits to identify risks and inefficiencies.

Process Improvement

  • Identify and implement process improvements across financial operations.
  • Leverage technology to streamline workflows and enhance reporting capabilities.
  • Document and standardize accounting procedures and policies.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Mentor and manage a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Provide training and development opportunities to support team growth and performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Industry experience in multi-unit operations (e.g., retail, hospitality, or services) is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar ERP systems) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and collaborate cross-functionally.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and handle sensitive information with discretion.
