Controller – Construction Industry
Location: Albuquerque, NM
Direct Hire | Full-Time | On-Site

LHH is partnering with a well-established and respected construction company to identify a Controller to join their leadership team. This is a key role overseeing the financial operations for a dynamic, project-based organization with deep roots in the New Mexico construction industry. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on accounting expertise, strong leadership abilities, and a solid understanding of construction or project-based financial management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, A/R, A/P, payroll, and job cost accounting

  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, project reports, and cash flow projections

  • Oversee budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis

  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and relevant accounting standards

  • Collaborate with executive leadership to support strategic planning and financial decision-making

  • Support audit preparation and liaise with external auditors

  • Manage and mentor accounting staff to support departmental growth and efficiency

  • Drive process improvements to enhance accuracy, reporting, and operational effectiveness

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role

  • Experience in the construction industry or project-based accounting environment required

  • Strong understanding of GAAP, job costing, and construction-specific financial management

  • Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and advanced Excel skills

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills

  • Proven ability to lead teams, improve processes, and collaborate cross-functionally
