Controller – Construction Industry
Location: Albuquerque, NM
Direct Hire | Full-Time | On-Site
LHH is partnering with a well-established and respected construction company to identify a Controller to join their leadership team. This is a key role overseeing the financial operations for a dynamic, project-based organization with deep roots in the New Mexico construction industry. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on accounting expertise, strong leadership abilities, and a solid understanding of construction or project-based financial management.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, A/R, A/P, payroll, and job cost accounting
Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, project reports, and cash flow projections
Oversee budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis
Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and relevant accounting standards
Collaborate with executive leadership to support strategic planning and financial decision-making
Support audit preparation and liaise with external auditors
Manage and mentor accounting staff to support departmental growth and efficiency
Drive process improvements to enhance accuracy, reporting, and operational effectiveness
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role
Experience in the construction industry or project-based accounting environment required
Strong understanding of GAAP, job costing, and construction-specific financial management
Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and advanced Excel skills
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Proven ability to lead teams, improve processes, and collaborate cross-functionally
