System Administrator Lead
Location: Albuquerque, NM; onsite
Job Type: Full-Time | Exempt
Reports To: Director of IT Infrastructure & Security
About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced System Administrator Lead to join our growing IT team. This leadership role is ideal for a hands-on technologist with a passion for infrastructure, cloud transformation, and team mentorship. You’ll oversee a small but impactful team of system administrators, guiding the design, deployment, and optimization of hybrid IT environments.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Oversight
- Lead a team of system administrators, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Provide mentorship, performance feedback, and professional development support.
- Collaborate with IT leadership to align team goals with broader organizational objectives.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members.
- Support cross-functional collaboration with help desk and network teams.
Infrastructure & Systems Management
- Manage and maintain virtual and physical server environments (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Oversee Windows-based systems; familiarity with Linux is a plus (legacy systems being phased out).
- Support hybrid infrastructure with growing cloud adoption (Office 365, Azure).
- Implement and maintain system security, patch management, and automation (PowerShell scripting).
- Monitor system performance and capacity planning using analytics and reporting tools.
Security & Compliance
- Assist in executing cybersecurity tasks and initiatives under the guidance of the IT Security Director.
- Ensure systems meet compliance and security standards.
- Collaborate with external vendors and MSPs to support infrastructure and security operations.
Project & Vendor Coordination
- Lead infrastructure-related projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business needs.
- Coordinate with managed service providers (MSPs) and vendors to resolve issues and implement solutions.
- Evaluate new technologies and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of experience in systems administration, with increasing leadership responsibilities.
- Strong background in Windows server environments and virtualization platforms.
- Experience with Office 365, Azure, and hybrid cloud environments.
- Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell preferred) and automation.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and team leadership skills.
Preferred
- Experience in patch management and ticketing systems.
- Exposure to cybersecurity practices and tools.
- Familiarity with DevOps or application infrastructure is a plus.
- Industry certifications (e.g., Microsoft, VMware, CompTIA) are valued but not required.
- Degree not required—equivalent experience and demonstrated expertise are welcome.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary range: $85,000 – $95,000
- Participation in on-call rotation (approx. every 8 weeks).
