Position: Payroll Manager
Location: Austin, TX - onsite
A growing, multi-entity organization headquartered in Austin is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead and oversee end-to-end payroll operations. This role is responsible for ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time, and that all related reporting, compliance, and systems processes are executed to the highest standards.
This is a high-impact leadership position for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys optimizing payroll systems, leading teams, and navigating regulatory complexity.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the full payroll cycle for a biweekly schedule, including review, approvals, and reconciliation
Maintain accuracy across wage calculations, tax withholdings, benefit deductions, and paid time off tracking
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax and labor regulations
Lead payroll tax filings and year-end processing, including W-2 distribution
Act as the primary liaison between payroll and departments such as HR, Accounting, and IT
Respond to audit inquiries and manage documentation for internal and external audits
Provide regular reports to leadership and support ad hoc data requests
Manage and develop payroll staff, fostering a collaborative and compliant team environment
Stay current with industry standards and evolving regulations to ensure best practices
Support integration activities related to M&A and onboarding of new business units
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
At least 5 years of experience managing payroll in a multi-state environment
Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax reporting, and general accounting practices
Familiarity with time-tracking integrations and payroll system configurations
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred:
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
Experience with multi-entity payroll or acquisitions
Proficiency in ADP Time & Attendance and Microsoft Excel
