LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a client to hire an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant for a contract opportunity in Berkeley, California. In this role, you will take responsibility for general ledger activities, ensuring compliance with GAAP, supporting audits, and helping improve accounting processes and systems. Ideallym you are proactive, analytical, and experienced in working in dynamic environments.
PLEASE NOTE: All duties for this role are performed at the client’s office in Berkeley, California.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations for month-end and year-end close.
Maintain and ensure accuracy of the general ledger and sub-ledgers.
Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
Analyze financial data and trends to support business decisions.
Ensure compliance with internal controls and GAAP.
Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits and provide required documentation.
Support budgeting and forecasting processes.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.
Assist in ERP system upgrades or transitions.
Mentor junior accounting staff as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or progress toward certification strongly preferred.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, SAP, or similar ERP).
Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in nonprofit, biotech, or tech sectors.
Familiarity with local California tax laws and regulations.
