Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Payroll Accounting Analyst to join our team. This professional will be responsible for performing advanced-level accounting tasks with both technical and functional expertise. The Sr. Payroll Accounting Analyst plays a key role in the monthly closing process, focusing on internal payroll, benefits, and payroll taxes. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this position will handle complex payroll accounting tasks, such as benefits and payroll reconciliations, quarterly compliance reconciliations, and thorough monthly analyses to support the monthly reporting package. The ideal candidate will have extensive payroll processing and accounting experience.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the monthly close for payroll, benefits, and payroll taxes, including journal entries and General Ledger (GL) reconciliations.

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to manage capital labor expenses, maintain Workday project codes, analyze data, and produce reports.

  • Reconcile payroll cash accounts, investigate discrepancies related to earnings, taxes, and deductions, and resolve items within the Oracle Treasury module.

  • Administer the Workday Journal Integration, including GL mapping and troubleshooting.

  • Conduct monthly payroll and benefits expense analyses, explaining variances against budget, forecast, and prior-year actuals.

  • Perform in-depth benefits analysis:

    • Analyze variances between GL and benefit funding for FSA, HSA, and 401k accounts.

    • Collaborate with HR to reconcile benefit invoices to payroll, identify process improvements, and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Ensure regulatory compliance:

    • Manage quarter-end and year-end compliance processes, including preparation and auditing of 941s, T-4s, and W-2s.

    • Coordinate with Payroll, Payroll Tax, and Risk Management teams to record and pay non-third-party administered payroll taxes.

    • Lead quarterly internal 401k audits and contribute to year-end 401k audits.

  • Prepare supporting schedules for external financial audits, workers' compensation audits, 401k audits, and tax preparations.

  • Contribute to the overall success of the Payroll department by performing assigned duties, providing backup support as needed, maintaining accuracy, demonstrating professionalism, ensuring confidentiality, and providing excellent customer service.

Key Qualifications:

  • Top Tier ERP system experience (Oracle, SAP, etc.) required.

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Excel champion (If Statements, Macros, Pivots, Vlookup).

  • Requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience in payroll accounting.

  • Comprehensive understanding of payroll processing; taxable wages, subject wages, deductions, exemptions, garnishments, etc.

  • Requires a minimum of 2 years’ experience with Workday Payroll/HCM.

  • Ability to work collaboratively towards team and individual goals.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Exercises discretion and maintains a high level of confidentiality.

  • Self-motivated, capable of working independently, goal-oriented, and people-oriented.

  • Possesses excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams and stakeholders.

  • Able to organize and prioritize multiple tasks under daily deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with custom reporting in Workday.

  • Experience processing US and Canadian payroll.

  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).



Pay Details: $90,000.00 to $105,000.00 per year
