Job Description – Network Systems Engineer

Location: Onsite – Ventura County, CA
Clearance: Active DoD Secret clearance required (T5 preferred)
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required
Employment Type: Direct Hire | Full-Time | Fully Funded
Salary Range: $105,000 – $125,000 annually (based on experience)


About the Role

LHH Technology is seeking a Network Systems Engineer to support a high-impact, federally funded program based in Ventura County, CA. This position plays a critical role in maintaining secure, mission-critical IT infrastructure supporting Department of Defense (DoD) operations. The ideal candidate will be experienced in systems and network administration, cybersecurity practices, and infrastructure optimization in classified environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and manage LAN/WAN systems, servers, and virtual infrastructure (VMware/Hyper-V)

  • Administer Windows and Linux operating systems, Active Directory, Group Policy, and authentication services

  • Monitor system performance, availability, and logs; implement patches and security updates

  • Configure and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN solutions in a secure environment

  • Ensure system integrity through routine backups, disaster recovery planning, and incident response

  • Implement cybersecurity controls and maintain compliance with DoD security protocols

  • Support light software testing and scripting tasks using Cypress, Jest, or related tools

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and collaborate across cross-functional teams


Required Qualifications

  • 3–10 years of experience in system administration, network engineering, or infrastructure support

  • Proficiency with Windows Server, Linux, and virtualization technologies

  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, and routing protocols

  • Experience with DoD cybersecurity requirements, PKI infrastructure, and SSL certificate management

  • Skilled in backup and recovery solutions, patch management, and performance tuning

  • Ability to work independently in a secure, onsite classified environment

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting military or government IT systems

  • Familiarity with SIEM tools, endpoint protection (e.g., CrowdStrike, SentinelOne), and vulnerability scanning tools

  • Exposure to Kubernetes or containerized environments

  • DoD 8570 compliant certifications (e.g., Security+, Network+, Linux+, CEH)

  • Tier 2/3 Help Desk experience and familiarity with service ticketing systems


Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
    Substitution Option: An additional 6 years of experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree; 4 years with an associate degree


Clearance & Work Authorization

  • Clearance: Active DoD Secret clearance required (T5 preferred)

  • Eligibility: U.S. Citizenship required due to federal contract requirements
