Position Title: Senior Staff Accountant
Location: Chicago, IL 60604 (Downtown Loop)

About the Role:

Our client, a respected private membership organization located in Chicago’s vibrant Loop, is looking for a detail-driven and proactive Senior Staff Accountant. This position plays a key role in supporting day-to-day accounting operations, managing accounts receivable, and contributing to monthly financial reporting. The ideal candidate will bring precision, a strong sense of accountability, and a commitment to delivering excellent service to members.

Primary Duties:

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and prepare related reports.

  • Record journal entries with accuracy and completeness.

  • Support the monthly close process in accordance with GAAP.

  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements.

  • Process incoming payments and ensure accurate revenue recognition.

  • Respond to member inquiries related to accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balances.

  • Issue invoices, resolve billing discrepancies, and manage dues renewals and confirmations.

  • Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and annual budgets.

  • Collaborate with the Accounting Manager to uphold transparent and compliant accounting practices.

  • Provide documentation for state charity filings, 990s, sales tax returns, 1099s, and audit requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline.

  • At least 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a client-services or hospitality setting.

  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
