Interim CFO – Mission-Driven Nonprofit | Hybrid or Remote
A nationally respected nonprofit organization with approximately $100M+ in annual revenue is seeking an Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide financial leadership during a transitional period. This organization plays a vital role in upholding professional standards and public safety, and is known for its collaborative culture and long-tenured finance team.
This interim role will support the organization through its year-end audit and ensure continuity in financial operations while a permanent CFO is recruited. The current CFO is retiring after a long and successful tenure, and the organization is seeking a confident, experienced leader to guide the team through this important fiscal period.
Position Details
Title: Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Location: Hybrid from Chicago or fully remote
Start Date: September 15
Duration: 3–6+ months
Schedule: Flexible hours, 20–40 hours/week
Pay Rate: Hourly
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee a 6-person accounting team
Manage treasury operations and ensure funding continuity
Prepare for and manage year-end audit (fiscal year begins October 1)
Maintain budgeting and financial reporting processes
Collaborate with external auditors and internal stakeholders
Provide strategic oversight without major operational changes
Candidate Requirements
CPA or CFP required
Experience with nonprofit financials (audit/tax exposure acceptable)
Proven leadership of accounting/finance teams
Familiarity with audit preparation and year-end processes
Master’s degree in Finance or Accounting preferred
Pay Details: $75.00 to $140.00 per hour
