IP Litigation Paralegal – Chicago, IL (Hybrid Work Option)

Steptoe LLP, a leading international law firm, is actively hiring an experienced Intellectual Property Litigation Paralegal to join its high-performing team in Chicago. This is an exciting opportunity for a litigation-savvy paralegal to take on a challenging role in complex IP matters. Candidates must bring a proactive attitude, strong eDiscovery experience (particularly with Relativity), and the ability to manage time-sensitive tasks with urgency and precision.

Key Responsibilities:

Litigation Case Support

  • Partner with attorneys to manage all phases of IP litigation, from case initiation through trial and appeal.

  • Maintain comprehensive case files including pleadings, discovery materials, expert reports, and court correspondence.

  • Track deadlines, hearings, depositions, and filing dates, ensuring compliance with all procedural rules.

  • Coordinate with clients, experts, witnesses, and external vendors.

Legal Research & Writing

  • Conduct detailed legal and factual research using platforms such as Westlaw, LEXIS, and PACER.

  • Analyze statutes, rules, and case law to support case strategies.

  • Prepare concise legal summaries, draft routine pleadings, and assist with citation formatting (Bluebook proficiency required).

Document Review & Discovery

  • Assist with eDiscovery and document production, leveraging tools like Relativity, CaseMap/TimeMap, and West Case Notebook.

  • Set up and manage review databases for large-scale litigation.

  • Assist attorneys with interrogatory responses, document subpoenas, and privilege logs.

Trial & Deposition Preparation

  • Prepare trial binders, deposition exhibits, witness kits, and exhibit lists.

  • Attend trials and depositions, providing on-the-ground logistical and technical support in the courtroom.

  • Assist with trial presentation software and exhibit coordination.

Additional Duties

  • Accurately track and record billable hours daily.

  • Provide overflow assistance to other practice groups as needed.

  • Contribute to pro bono and firm development initiatives when appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate strongly preferred.

  • 3+ years of paralegal experience, with at least 2 years focused on litigation. Prior IP litigation experience is strongly preferred.

  • Proficient in electronic filing procedures across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Strong command of Relativity and other litigation support software is essential.

  • Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven, high-volume legal environment.

Compensation:

Salary range: $76,000–$99,000, commensurate with experience, education, and relevant certifications.
